The Indonesian government has formally apologised to Nigeria over manhandling of a Nigeria diplomat by three of their immigration officers. The spokesperson of the Indonesian foreign minister, Teuku Faizasyah, while expressing regret said, “This is an isolated incident and is in no way related to the commitment of the Indonesian government in carrying out it’s obligation as host country or in accordance with Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.”
What happened? A video that went viral last week showed three Indonesia immigration officers assualting a Nigerian ambassador, Mohammed Buba, and ignoring his pains. The Minister of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria, Geoffrey Onyeama, demanded an apology and also threatened to review it’s relationship with the country.
